Campaigners to protest at city council budget meeting

On Monday March 5th, Nottinghamshire Save Our Services (Notts SOS) will protest outside the Council House when Nottingham City Council meets to vote on its budget for 2012-13.

We have set up an internet petition about the council's eviction of the Occupy Camp from the Market Square.

This initial statement was collectively agreed by over 500 people on the steps of St Paul's on 16th October 2011. Point 8 was added by the Occupy London General Assembly on 19th November 2011. After ammending point 6, Occupy Nottingham collectively agreed to fully adopt the entire 'common statement', at the General Assembly on 25th January 2012.

Occupy Nottingham were served yesterday with notice to leave within 7 days, before eviction papers are served by the council.

The council meeting began at 10am, while the protest kicked-off at 12.30pm.

Nottinghamshire Save Our Services (Notts SOS) is calling on user groups at the International Community Centre (ICC) on Mansfield Road to rally round against proposed funding cuts.

Saturday 12th February was a normal Saturday, with no major political events planned in Nottingham as far as I know. Nevertheless, Notts SOS, the SWP, the Socialist Party and Occupy Nottingham were all  busy trying to engage with the shoppers and passers-by in Market Square.

On Friday 3rd February, campaigners returned to Atos Healthcare's offices on Stoney Street in the Lace Market, Notttingham.

This was the first protest there since a demonstration on September 30th last year, part of a national day of action, which ended with two of the participants being arrested, and subsequently charged, with aggravated trespass.

On Friday February 3rd, campaigners in Nottingham will hold a protest against Atos "Healthcare".

On Sunday 22nd January, Occupy Nottingham marked it's 100th day in occupation. The camp, part of a global network of occupations, was started on October 15th. Despite the harsh weather, campers remain committed to staying "as long as it takes".

Now at day 100. Gosh!!

Who would have thought they'd be sticking it out this long.  Very well done all.

Nottingham City Council has announced its proposals for the 2012-13 budget, these include extensive cuts to jobs and services as well as a council tax hike. Notts SOS has begun a campaign against the planned cuts and urged supporters to attend council consultation events around the city in order to challenge councillors.
